Is Lighten Up only used as a weight loss program?

Lighten Up is not a weight loss program but rather a lifestyle plan, which encourages healthy and nutritious foods, gentle exercise, stress reduction and quality sleep. The Lighten Up plan is about learning to eat well in combination with a healthy lifestyle – and these changes may result in weight loss.

How much weight will I lose?

Everybody loses weight at different rates. Weight loss depends on various things such as age, gender, Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), current weight, level of exercise, and energy balance.

Speak to a Lighten Up consultant to find out more.

How do I know how much fat I have lost?

Fat loss can be measured in a variety of ways. The simplest way is to take regular measurements and keep a record. This allows you to see your progress and can help motivate you to continue with your healthy diet and lifestyle changes. Speak to your health care professional about other ways to measure fat.

How long can I stay on this plan?

Healthy eating is a choice, and should be maintained. We suggest one week for each kilo you would like to shed.

Once you have reached your goal, continue to incorporate healthy, fresh food into your normal diet to replace any fatty, sugary meals you may have had in the past.

Seek the advice of a qualified nutritionist to ensure you have incorporated all of the food groups into your healthy eating plan.

Can I undertake this plan if I am a diabetic or have high blood pressure?

Please speak to your healthcare practitioner before undertaking any food or exercise plan to assess if this plan is suitable for you.

Can I follow this plan if I'm pregnant?

We don’t recommend pregnant or lactating women to undertake such plans unless you have received direct instructions from a qualified medical practitioner.

Do I have to exercise on the plan?

To lose weight we can either use more calories, or eat fewer calories. The way to use more calories is to be more physically active.

Exercise provides a number of health benefits and may leave you feeling happier, calmer and more relaxed.

If you are new to exercise, remember it is important to choose exercise and activities that you can fit into your lifestyle. Start with small achievable goals and gradually increase activity levels over time. We encourage everyone to move more, increase incidental exercise and find activities that you like to do. We also recommend speaking to your healthcare practitioner before starting any fitness or training plan.
