Body Mass Index (BMI)

Body Mass Index (BMI)

Body Mass Index (BMI) measures body fat based on height and weight, and applies to both adult men and women. BMI doesn’t differentiate between body fat and muscle mass, so bodybuilders and people who have a lot of muscle bulk might have a high BMI but aren’t obese or overweight.

The BMI is calculated by dividing weight (kilograms) by height (metres) squared. The BMI does not account for age, gender, bone structure, fat distribution or muscle mass.
